Welcome to the all-new ZBQ onlne store! I hope you enjoy the scenery so far.

Getting here has been fun, but also a real battle. Just over a year ago my son and I moved into a great house where I was finally able to properly set up my screen printing, dyeing and sewing gear for the first time in nearly 3 years. In 2014 I had a great spot for making stuff but we had to leave it. We ended up in a tiny apartment where I was able to print occasionally in the living room, but it was far from practical and consequently not a lot got printed. So I decided to just focus on my sewing skills, which were pretty raw at the time, and work on making some new things I hadn't tried yet, such as polo shirts, jackets and pillows. This is just temporary, I thought- we'll be out in a year.

Well the "temporary living arrangement" ended up lasting about 2 & 1/2 years. In that time I did improve my sewing skills, even though that's an ongoing thing, and I also focussed a lot more on drawing and playing music, two of my other passions. But I really missed having access to a print shop any time of the day or night, and so when we scored this house last April I was ecstatic and had a lot of fun setting things up in the ample basement and upstairs areas.

Something else happened last April- I received a settlement check for a car accident that had happened the previous February (I was OK, my car was totalled). But before that check arrived I already knew exactly what I was going to do with it- purchase a ton of raw materials and set to the task of creating a nice range of new clothes, followed by a new web store. And that, allowing for eating, sleeping and working, became my life's mission for the rest of 2017 and all of 2018 so far.

So originally this was supposed to be finished last October. At least, that was my  "worst case scenario", the latest I could possibly see it going when I first started dyeing fabric back in May. As you can see, it took me a little longer than that- 6 months longer to be exact. These things take time, and when you work a full-time job and also run a custom screen printing business on the side, they take even more time.

But it would appear that we have, for all intents and purposes, arrived. I am very proud of this first offering- for the very first time, I have sewn multiple sizes for certain pieces, and that is something that will continue. And for the first time in about 10 years, I am offering straight up standard t-shirts. ZBQ started out way back when as a t-shirt line, and that's all we sold for many years. In 2009 I started getting interested in making custom-sewn shirts, and the t-shirts got left behind for a while. Well, they're back, and they're here to stay. A t-shirt is comfortable and can be worn with anything, and they cost quite a bit less than the custom sewn shirts as well.

So welcome, and thanks for coming by. What you're looking at has been my little project for the last year or so. I hope you dig it.
